Introducing our 2nd co-design with Fiona
In 2019, we launched the Fiona. Created alongside Fiona, a Chinese stylist and influencer based in Germany, our first design was inspired by a vintage suitcase. Her dedication to detail and sophistication has made the Fiona handbag one of our best-selling ever designs.
Encouraged by our last collaboration, we worked over the past year on our second design - the May. We primarily discussed the purpose of the bag; why would it exist. We found that her grandmother, who she spent so much of her childhood with, often arose in the conversation so we felt it was apt to dedicate the design to her.
The classic design and the pearl accessory really made the bag special and fit Fiona’s happy memories of dressing up in her grandmother’s clothes and jewellery. Fashion is often so transient and influenced by temporary trends but we feel more comfortable being inspired by our own experiences. This tribute to Fiona’s grandmother and her style, is both heartwarming and inspiring.
The May is handcrafted from the finest natural leather and constructed to be both beautiful and durable. It has an elegant silhouette with an angled top metal frame and a central top clip, leaving the front uncluttered and refined. The pearl decoration (which is only available with a special code from Fiona for the first 300 bags) transforms the bag from a beautiful everyday bag into more of a head turner for more glamorous occasions.
In 2024, Beara Beara Founder Jake, visited Fiona in Shanghai and the two rekindled their friendship with a day around Fiona’s hometown. They met outside Fiona’s primary school and they toured the area as Fiona discussed how dramatically it has changed since her childhood. She spent years with her grandparents as a child and she reminisced about how special that time was for her.
They visited a local market which showcased what the area used to be like before being transformed into such a modern city. They ate traditional dishes and discussed how their lives have changed so much since their first collaboration. Despite coming from such different backgrounds they have always found so many similarities in their approach to life.
They held an event with some of Fiona’s followers and discussed the new release and exciting ideas for the future. It was a really nice experience for all involved and clarified that collaborations only work when they are done with attention to deal, and with purpose and meaning being the design.
